travel to cubaCuba, the beautiful Alligator as it is called and the largest of the Caribbean islands is located in the entrance of the Gulf of Mexico.  The island’s closest neighbor´s are: Haiti to the east; the Peninsula of Yucatan to the west; Florida to the north and Jamaica to the south.  The Bahamas is found very close to the northeast.  Cuba is an archipelago made up of some 4 195 keys and the Isle of Youth.

The Cuban population is the result of a mixture of European, African, Asian and Creole origin.  Its people are joyful and musical and live very rooted in its traditions and customs.  The island’s inhabitants have a high educational level and have access to a national educational system free of charge for all.
Cuba enjoys a prestigious culture, a culture that was accumulated through centuries and which is a product of the mixture of cultures.  As Cuba’s ethnologist Fernando Ortiz said it is the outcome of a process of a mixture of cultures that has formed the Cuban nationality and has achieved a universal dimension.  This country is full of artistic and creative manifestations and has contributed to international culture with important figures in almost all cultural modalities.   
In the field of music, the rumba and conga emerged; the son and danzon.  The most recent are the mambo, cha cha cha, new song movement, jazz and the popular salsa.   This mixture of rhythms and new musical tendencies has contributed with renowned musical groups like: Aragon, Beny More, Compay Segundo, Joseito Fernandez, Lecuona, Cesar Portillo de la Luz, Chucho Valdes among many others, representing a small sample of the diversity and richness of Cuban music.
Great writers and poets like Jose Maria Heredia, Jose Marti, Dulce Maria Loynaz, Alejo Carpentier, Jose Lezama Lima, Nicolas Guillen or Eliseo Diego; internationally acclaimed painters like Wilfredo Lam, Rene Portocarrero or Tomas Valdes; or exponents of dance like the Cuban National Ballet company.  Cuba is the site of important international events like: the Ballet and Theater Festivals, the Painting Biennial, Popular Music Festival, International Book Fair, the International Film Festival of New Latin American Cinema among others that are hosted in the capital and other parts of the island.
Cuba is divided into 14 provinces and a special municipality.  They are Pinar del Rio, Havana, the city of Havana, Matanzas, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila, Camaguey, Las Tunas, Holguin, Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo.  The special municipality of the Isle of Youth located south of Havana province.
The capital of Cuba, the city of Havana was founded in 1519 and originally baptised with the name of San Cristobal de la Habana and is located in the north-western part of the island.  The city is full of incredible history, culture and traditions.  It is an excellent cultural and tourism destination for having multiple attractions to enjoy and recreations.

Pinar del Rio is the island’s western most province.  You can visit beautiful sites like: Viñales Valley, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and Soroa located in the western part of the Sierra del Rosario Mountain range, declared a Biosphere Reserve due to its natural treasures.
Among some of its main attractions are the Pesca Laguna Verde Club for those that want altitude fishing; the Maria La Gorda International Divining Center and Levisa Key. 
Matanzas, known as the Athens of Cuba,  also stands out in the country’s cultural panorama.  It is famous for the world famous Varadero Beach Resort with 23 diving areas, sporting installations, golf course and a wide range of hotels and tourism facilities.  In the Zapata Peninsula a vacationer can visit the Montemar Grand Natural Park with beautiful landscapes, flooded caves, excellent underground floors as well as Playa Giron and Playa Larga and Guamá an excellent tourism center.  The park is ideal for walking, bird watching, diving, tracking, and hiking, boat rides among other water or land sports.
Cienfuegos, known as the Pearl of the South is a port city with coasts to the warm Caribbean Sea and has an incredibly beautiful bay.  It has remarkable heritage constructions and where you can find ideal sties for diving.  It is a great opportunity to select the excellent La Union hotel boutique. 
Villa Clara is the island’s most central city, it has century old cultural value and its an excellent opportunity to tour its legendary towns.  This province is home to the Escambray Mountain range, the Topes de Collantes Rest and Health Center as well as the Hanabanilla artificial lake.
travel to havanaIn Sancti Spiritus you can find the country’s most beautiful colonial cities like Trinidad, for example, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.  Close to the town of Trinidad you can find the Maria Aguilar beach, hotel installations and a diving center. Jardines del Rey is made up of keys which were baptised by the Spanish in honor of the King of the time.  Among the most outstanding keys are Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo both located north of the province of Ciego de Avila with incredible natural landscapes for all those interested in water sports and recreation, in addition to its modern hotel installations. 
Santa Lucia is the main tourism destination in the province of Camaguey, a vacationer can enjoy excellent beaches, diving sties and fishing.
In eastern Holguin province you can find one of the richest scenery of Cuban nature.  Bahia de Bariay located in this province was where Cristopher Columbus landed for the first time in Cuban land.  Some of the most interesting sites are the Loma de la Cruz, the historic center of the city of Holguin and its surroundings that deserves the name it was given as the City of Parks.  The city is also the site of the famous Romerias de Mayo cultural activities.
The province treasures attractions like its beaches, of them the most important are: Guardalavaca, Pesquero and Esmeralda.   In this territory there are remains of aboriginal settlements like the Chorro de Maíta.

Las Tunas province located in the eastern part of the island is known as the balcony of eastern Cuba.  There are over 30 virgin beaches located along its coasts.  Nature tourism has been developed in this province with its most attractive and richness medicinal waters.
Surrounded by the Sierra Maestra Mountain range are the easternmost provinces of Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo.  Granma is known as the “Cradle of the Nationality” and conserves a rich historic and cultural heritage.  Among the sites that stand out are the Monument City of Bayamo, the La Demajagua National Park, the city of Manzanillo and the singular beach of Marea del Portillo.
Santiago de Cuba is the “Heroic City of the Republic of Cuba”, title given to the city for its extraordinary contribution of its people in the island’s independence struggles. Like in any other region in the country, Santiago’s culture is full of richness and a mixture of races.  Its inhabitants are characterized as being hospitable and cheerful. Music is an essential component of the spirit of the people of Santiago.
Santiago has been the cradle of important musicians and musical genres that has made the nation famous and has spread throughout the world with a special identity:  Santiago is recognized as the cradle of the son, bolero and the trova movement.    We must highlight its famous carnivals and internationally recognized Caribbean Festival. The city of Santiago de Cuba has a rich architectural-historic-cultural estate which includes the Moncada Garrison, the Santa Ifigenia Cemetary, Diego Velasquez Home Museum, Bacardi Museum, theatre, Concert Halls among others.  On the other hand there is also the Baconao National Park declared Biosphere Reserve, the Loma de San Juan, Gran Piedra and the Pre-historic Valley.
Santiago also has incredible nature where a vacationer can enjoy the Sierra Maestra Grand Park with its Turquino National Park (highest peak on the island) the Desembarco de Granma with enormous ecological value.
